Endocrinology Department was created in SCB Medical College in 1974 with clinics in Diabetes, Thyroid and Endocrinology by Dr KC Samal. He overcame the difficulties in getting Govt support to build a laboratory by encouraging a private lab to help the needy. As president of ESI, he organized the annual Conference of Endocrinology at Puri in 1982. His successors, Dr GC Naik, Dr PK Mishra and AK Baliarsinha, all alumni of PGI have maintained the service and academic standards. Endocrine Society of Odisha was formed in 1982. Today 10 PGI alumni are serving in the state. DM in endocrinology was started in SCBMC in 2012 and till date 6 candidates have qualified and, presently 6 are pursuing the course.
